INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

People seek therapy for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, a lack of motivation, poor self-esteem, residual trauma, a difficult life transition, hopelessness, or are looking for more balance in your life, therapy can provide you with the tools and support you need to thrive.

When life throws obstacles our way, the weight can feel unbearable. We all need someone to talk to! In our therapy sessions, we’ll work through those "stuck points" and get you feeling better.

Through a judgment-free, safe, and collaborative environment, we will work through the difficult emotions and experiences that are holding you back. I provide therapy from a collaborative, trauma-informed and strengths-based approach, helping you identify your innate strength, abilities, and resilience.

In our therapy sessions, a variety of modalities will be used when appropriate. My specialized training is supporting youth and emerging adults with:

  • stress and anxiety

  • depression

  • 2SLGBTQIA wellness

  • self-harm

  • healing trauma

  • relationships

  • disabilities

  • self-esteem.

Whether this is the first time that you are considering therapy, or you have previously attended therapy, I am here to work collaboratively with you on your goals. Contact me today to arrange a free phone consultation.

MY APPROACH

One of the most important components of successful therapy is establishing a strong therapeutic alliance. Change isn't easy. It's essential to have a caring, supportive and reliable therapist accompany you through this process of healing. This is why creating a safe and judgment-free environment for our sessions is my priority; I don't underestimate the strength, vulnerability and bravery that is required of you to begin this journey.

Our sessions will vary based on your needs and will be agreed on collaboratively. My techniques stem from my professional experiences listed here.

I am trained in multiple therapeutic approaches, from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy.

AEDP is an approach I strongly connect with, as it is a healing-oriented approach informed by neurobiology, attachment theory, and emotion theory. AEDP is an evidence-based experiential therapy that often goes beyond the typical “talk therapy”. By creating a warm, safe, secure base with one another, we can begin to name and experience emotional and relational encounters you have had that are distressing, and get you “unstuck”.

You can expect a structured session that typically involves the following:

  • Checking in on how things have been and how you are feeling today

  • Agree on the direction we will take this session

  • The 'work': this might involve emotional or experiential-based exercises, as well as techniques from solution-focused therapy, CBT and mindfulness.

  • Summarize, process and debrief on the session

  • Discuss action plan if desired, including strategies for your week ahead
